riders named to funded team for Madrid Supercross World Cup
Colorado Springs, Colo. (March
3, 2010) – USA Cycling announced today the eight athletes
it will send to round one of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in
Madrid, Spain, March 26-27. The Madrid Supercross is the fifth event
that factors into the 2010 USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings. The final
race that will factor into these rankings will be the UCI BMX World
Championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on July 31.
Four men received nominations
to the funded team: Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif.), Nicholas Long
(Lakeside, Calif.), David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo.), and Corben
Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz.). Robinson was automatically selected as
the top elite male rider in the USA Cycling Power Rankings. Long
and Herman, the top U23 men in the power rankings, and Sharrah,
who sits atop the junior men’s rankings, received coaches’
selection to the funded team for Madrid.
The women’s funded squad
will include Arielle Martin (Spanaway, Wash.), Ashley Verhagen (Simi
Valley, Calif.), Amanda Geving (Largo, Florida), and Brooke Crain
(Visalia, Calif.). As the top elite female rider in the power rankings,
Martin was an automatic selection to the funded team. Verhagen,
Geving, and Crain received coaches’ nominations to the team
based on their performance at the first USA Cycling BMX Women’s
Development Camp which took place at the Olympic Training Center
in Chula Vista, Calif., Feb. 22 – March 4.
All championship class riders
with an active USA Cycling BMX license can register for the Madrid
Supercross by logging on to their “My USA Cycling” account.
Registration costs $165 and is open until 5:00 p.m. MST on March
10th, 2010.
